BIG NUDES and MORE

In October, 2018, Fred Burns filled the Stables Gallery in Taos, N.M. with over 50 large-format works in pastel, charcoal, graphite, and oil. The nudes were big, as advertised, but so were the monumental heads and clothed portraits featured in this show. A world-class film animator with a 30-year career in filmmaking and teaching, Burns went to film school in the 1970s. When his student animated film was considered for an academy award nomination, his career was launched. But he never stopped drawing.

The exhibit at the Stables Gallery was the first time Burns has shared this aspect of his creative work with the public. “I’ve been drawing for more than 50 years, but I’ve never had a show. This is my chance to let people know what I’ve been up to all this time,” Burns said, adding, “At my age, you have to go for broke!”
